How We Test Casino Sites

All casinos listed here hold a valid UK Gambling Commission licence. Gambling is a form of entertainment. Never bet more than you can afford to lose.

Matt Haynes is a gambling industry writer covering operator news, regulatory changes, and UK casino markets. Every site on this page was signed up to and tested with real money. Withdrawals were timed, bonuses were played through, and each UKGC licence was cross-checked against the Gambling Commission’s public register before publication.

Every casino that appears on this site has been tested using real money by our review team before receiving a recommendation. This page explains exactly what we test, how we test it, and what standards each casino must meet to appear on our lists.

Our Testing Principles

We test casinos the way a real player would use them. That means depositing our own money, claiming bonuses, playing games, and requesting withdrawals before writing a single word of review copy. We do not accept casino-provided demo accounts or rely on operator-supplied data.

Every data point in our reviews, withdrawal times, deposit fees, support response times, and game counts, comes from direct observation during our testing period, unless explicitly stated otherwise.

1

Step 1 - Licence Verification

Before testing, we verify that the casino holds an active UK Gambling Commission licence. We do not rely on the casino’s own claim. We search the operator name or licence number on the UKGC Public Register at register.gamblingcommission.gov.uk and confirm:

  • The licence is Active, not suspended or revoked
  • The licence type covers Remote Casino operations
  • The licence holder matches the operator named on the casino site
  • No regulatory warnings, fines, or conditions are attached to the licence

Any casino that fails this check is not reviewed further. Only UKGC-licensed sites appear on this site.

2

Step 2 - Registration

We complete the full registration process as a new player. We note:

  • Time to complete registration from landing on the homepage
  • KYC document requirements at sign-up
  • Whether age verification is requested immediately or deferred
  • Clarity of the bonus opt-in process during registration

We flag any casinos where the registration process obscures bonus terms, auto-opts players into marketing, or makes responsible gambling tools difficult to access.

3

Step 3 - Deposit Testing

We initiate a deposit using the minimum stated amount through the primary payment method listed for each site. For most sites this is PayPal or debit card. Where a site features Skrill specifically, we test using Skrill.

For each deposit we record:

  • The exact time the payment was initiated
  • The exact time the funds appeared in the casino account
  • Any fees charged by the casino or payment provider
  • Whether the deposit qualified for the welcome bonus
Example – JeffBet deposit test:
We initiated a £20 PayPal deposit on 11th February 2025 at 7:14 pm. Funds appeared in the JeffBet account at 7:14 pm, within 10 seconds of authorisation. No fee charged.
4

Step 4 - Bonus Verification

We claim the welcome bonus and document:

  • The exact bonus amount credited
  • The wagering requirement and how it is presented in-account
  • Which games contribute to wagering and at what percentage
  • Expiry dates on both the bonus and any free spins
  • Maximum bet limits while a bonus is active
  • Maximum conversion limit from bonus to withdrawable cash

We play through a portion of the bonus to verify the stated game contributions match actual behaviour. Any discrepancy between published terms and actual operation is flagged in the review.

5

Step 5 - Withdrawal Testing

We request a withdrawal to the same payment method used for the deposit. We measure total time from withdrawal request to funds received, not from approval. This is the figure that matters to players.

For each withdrawal we record:

  • Date and time of withdrawal request
  • Date and time of operator approval
  • Date and time funds were received in the payment account
  • Total elapsed time from request to receipt
  • Any fees applied by the casino
Example – MrQ withdrawal test:
We requested £50 via PayPal on 14th February 2025 at 2:08 pm. MrQ processed the withdrawal at 2:09 pm, 58 seconds after the request. Funds landed in PayPal at 2:21 pm. Total time from request to receipt: 13 minutes.
6

Step 6 - Customer Support Testing

We contact customer support via live chat with a genuine question relating to the bonus or account. We record:

  • Time to connect to a live agent from opening the chat
  • Whether the first response was from a bot or a human
  • The accuracy of the answer provided, verified against published terms
  • Agent name where provided

We specifically ask about free spin wagering requirements or game contribution percentages, as these are common sources of confusion and an accurate answer requires the agent to know the terms in detail.

7

Step 7 - Game Library Assessment

We manually check the game lobby and record:

  • Total game count as displayed in the lobby
  • Provider list, with specific attention to major UK providers - NetEnt, Pragmatic Play, Big Time Gaming, Blueprint, Hacksaw Gaming, Nolimit City
  • RTP displayed for a sample of 10 slots, including at least 3 Pragmatic Play titles
  • Presence of a live casino section and approximate table count
  • Mobile game compatibility

We flag any casinos where RTP figures in the game info panels appear lower than the provider’s published standard rates. This has been observed at a small number of operators running modified RTP configurations.

8

Step 8 - Mobile Testing

We access each casino on two mobile devices: an iPhone running Safari and a Samsung Android device running Chrome. We assess:

  • Home page load time on a standard 4G connection
  • Navigation clarity, particularly the route from lobby to cashier
  • Game launch speed and in-game performance
  • Deposit and withdrawal flow on mobile
  • Availability of a dedicated iOS or Android app where claimed

Our Rating Criteria

Each casino is rated across six categories, each weighted by importance to UK players:

Licensing & Safety
UKGC status, responsible gambling tools, GamStop participation
Bonus Quality
Wagering requirement, transparency, maximum win cap, free spin terms
Withdrawal Speed
Time from request to receipt, fee structure, method availability
Game Library
Count, provider diversity, RTP transparency, live casino offer
Mobile Experience
Browser performance, app availability, deposit and withdrawal flow
Customer Support
Response speed, accuracy, availability hours

What We Do Not Test

In the interest of transparency, here is what falls outside our standard testing process:

  • We do not test VIP or loyalty programmes beyond what is available to new players at sign-up
  • We do not test withdrawal speeds across all available payment methods at every casino
  • We do not test every game in the lobby - our RTP checks cover a representative sample
  • We do not verify every bonus promotion beyond the welcome offer

Where data is sourced from published operator information rather than our own testing, this is stated clearly in the review.

Review Frequency

Major reviews are updated when significant changes occur: new bonus terms, regulatory action, changes to withdrawal policy, or reader-reported issues. We aim to re-test the top 10 in full every six months. The last tested date is shown in the author block on each review page.
